Negotiators from the Council of the European Union and the European Parliament have reached a political agreement on the Omnibus VI package, introducing major regulatory updates for cosmetics, chemical classification, and fertiliser products across the European Union. Under the revised Regulation (EC) No 1223/2009, cosmetics containing CMR substances will face faster market withdrawal timelines (6 months for sales stop, 12 months for stock removal). Nanomaterial notification requirements are reintroduced, but with simplified timing. Under the updated Regulation (EC) No 1272/2008, clearer label readability standards and digital labelling options for small packaging are introduced, while suppliers now have 15 months to update stricter classifications. Most new requirements will apply from 1 January 2030, giving industries more transition time while increasing long-term compliance obligations for cosmetics and chemical markets.
