European Chemicals Agency (ECHA) Opens Consultation on Proposed Carcinogenicity Classification for Fluopyram Under CLP Regulation

On June 8, 2026, the European Chemicals Agency (ECHA) launched a 60-day public consultation on a harmonised classification and labelling (CLH) proposal submitted by Austria for fluopyram (CAS No. 658066-35-4), a fungicidal active substance used in plant protection products. Interested parties may submit comments and scientific data until August 7, 2026. Under the proposal, Austria recommends updating the existing Annex VI entry for fluopyram under the Classification, Labelling and Packaging (CLP) Regulation by adding a Carcinogenicity Category 2 classification (H351: Suspected of causing cancer), while retaining the current Aquatic Chronic Category 2 classification (H411: Toxic to aquatic life with long-lasting effects). The proposal reflects Austria’s assessment of the available toxicological data and seeks to strengthen the harmonised hazard classification of the substance across the European Union. The consultation covers a broad range of hazard classes, including acute toxicity, skin and eye effects, sensitisation, mutagenicity, carcinogenicity, reproductive toxicity, specific target organ toxicity, aspiration hazards, and environmental hazards. Following the consultation period, comments and supporting evidence will be evaluated by ECHA and its Risk Assessment Committee (RAC) before a scientific opinion is adopted and considered for inclusion in Annex VI to the CLP Regulation.
