The European Commission has authorized the placing on the EU market of inulin-propionate ester as a novel food and amended the Union List of Novel Foods under Implementing Regulation (EU) 2017/2470. The authorization follows EFSA's positive safety assessment, which concluded that the ingredient is safe under the proposed conditions of use in food

Major Changes:
1. Inulin-propionate ester has been added to the EU Union List of authorized novel foods.
2. EFSA concluded that the novel food is safe for the general population under the proposed conditions of use.
3.The ingredient consists of inulin esterified with propionic acid and is intended for use as a dietary fiber ingredient.
4. Authorized food categories include bread and rolls, cereal bars, and fruit smoothie-type beverages, providing up to 5 g of inulin-propionate ester per serving.
5. The authorization does not cover infant foods or baby foods
