The U.S. Food & Drug Administration (FDA) has announced a nationwide voluntary recall of selected lots of its Up & Up Fragrance Free and Up & Up Fresh Cucumber Scented Baby Wipes after customer complaints of product discoloration prompted further investigation. Laboratory testing conducted by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) detected the presence of Burkholderia cepacia complex and Burkholderia gladioli, bacteria that can cause serious and potentially life-threatening infections. The recalled wipes are primarily used on newborns, infants, and young children, making the contamination particularly concerning. While healthy individuals may experience localized skin infections, those with weakened immune systems, as well as babies and young children, face a greater risk of severe complications, including bloodstream infections, sepsis, and pneumonia. Reports associated with the affected products have included skin irritation, eye irritation, infections, and visible discoloration of the wipes. The recall covers multiple package sizes of fragrance-free wipes (20, 72, 216, 800, and 1,200 counts) and fresh cucumber-scented wipes sold at stores nationwide. The products were manufactured between November 2025 and May 2026, depending on the variety. Consumers are urged to stop using the wipes immediately and return them to any store for a full refund and continue to investigate the contamination issue.
