On 5 June 2026, Taiwan's Ministry of Environment (MOENV) announced a public consultation on the draft "Methods for Testing Organic Chemical Substances Qualitative and Quantitative Analysis Methods (NIEA T101.15C)", inviting stakeholder comments until 4 August 2026. The proposed method establishes standardized analytical procedures for the qualitative identification and quantitative determination of a broad range of organic chemical substances in environmental samples. It consolidates recommended instrumental techniques, including Raman spectroscopy, infrared spectroscopy, gas chromatography (GC), GC-mass spectrometry (GC-MS), GC-MS/MS, liquid chromatography (LC), LC-MS/MS, high-resolution LC-MS, X-ray diffraction, and other validated analytical methods. The draft includes a comprehensive reference table identifying suitable analytical techniques for numerous chemicals, such as solvents, pesticides, dyes, PFAS, PFOA, PFOS, PFHxS, organotin compounds, chlorinated paraffins, volatile organic compounds, and other regulated hazardous substances. It also specifies ion ratio acceptance criteria for tandem mass spectrometry to improve analytical reliability and consistency. The proposed update aims to modernize Taiwan's official environmental testing framework, strengthen laboratory quality assurance, and ensure harmonized, accurate detection and quantification of regulated organic chemicals used in environmental monitoring and regulatory compliance.
