Aphreseller (eBay seller ID) and Buy-herbal.com have issued a consumer-level recall of all lots of Kian Pee Wan capsules after U.S. FDA analysis found the product contains undeclared dexamethasone and cyproheptadine, ingredients not permitted in dietary supplements.
Kian Pee Wan, marketed online as a supplement for weight gain and appetite stimulation, is considered an unapproved drug because safety and efficacy have not been established for these undeclared pharmaceutical ingredients. The product was sold nationwide online through eBay and packaged in a white bottle with beige label containing 30 capsules.
FDA indicated the undeclared presence of dexamethasone, a corticosteroid, may pose serious health risks including immune suppression, hyperglycemia, psychiatric effects, adrenal suppression, cardiovascular events, and withdrawal risks following abrupt discontinuation. Cyproheptadine, a prescription antihistamine, may cause adverse effects including sedation, dizziness, gastrointestinal disturbances, urinary retention, and blurred vision.
Consumers are advised to stop using the product immediately, return it for a refund, or discard it, and consult healthcare providers if adverse effects have occurred. The recall highlights continued regulatory scrutiny of adulterated supplements containing undeclared pharmaceutical substances and reinforces FDA oversight of online dietary supplement products.
