Degradation of cosmetic ingredient methylparaben by zinc oxide nanoparticles, aided by sonication, light or a combination of sonication and light

In this research experiment, the effect of sonication, light aid and a combination of both on nano-sized zinc oxide-mediated degradation of methylparaben (used frequently in cosmetics as a preservative; a known allergen and a contaminant fond in wastewater) was investigated using electronic spectroscopy and differential conductometry. Based on the findings of this study, it is concluded that ZnO nanoparticles can effectively be harnessed for the removal or degradation of parabens from wastewater.
