ANEC POSITION PAPER ON REVISION OF EU RULES ON FOOD CONTACT MATERIALS

Urgently required actions to modify EU FCM regulations from ANEC based on Inadequate chemical requirements in Regulation (EC) No. 1935/2004 on Food Contact Materials continue to pose dangers to consumer health and the proper operation of the internal market.

Framework for food-contact items may be achieved by the following actions:

• The number of chemicals and materials requiring examination must be drastically decreased in the future.
• Commissional authorization,
• Authorisations should be granted only to the applicant and only for a specific use

ANEC contributions in support of certain consultation questions are provided, along with the responses. Important subjects are enumerated below;

• Different regulatory intervention stages:
• Sustainability
• Internal production control  must be supplemented by external product testing by a recognised - organisation.

The approval of the final FCM item will enhance compliance and safety across the supply chain.
