The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has released a guidance document in the shape of frequently asked questions (FAQs) to cater to Medical Food Manufacturers. ||

Some of the Insights from guidance document are as follows. ||
1. Medical Food is a a food designed to be consumed or administered enterally under a doctor's supervision for the specific dietary management of a disease or condition for which medical evaluation establishes distinct nutritional requirements based on recognized scientific principles. |

2. Medical Food is exempted from the labelling requirements for Nutrient content claims. |

3. The Food and Drug Administration does not keep an exhaustive inventory of medical foods available. |

4. Food for Pregnant women and for management of Diabetes Mellitus is not considered as Medical Food.
