Guidance to Commodity Committees on the Alignment of Food Additive Provisions

"This document aims to make the GSFA the single reference point for food additives in Codex Alimentarius, commodity committees play a key role in this alignment process. It covers the following information: Commodity committees, both adjourned and active, play a role in aligning food additive provisions in commodity standards, with the active ones also holding physical meetings and working on specific tasks such as standard development The document sets minimum expectations for active commodity committees and provides comprehensive guidance for those able to perform alignment using a decision tree developed by the CCFA The ultimate goal is for the GSFA to become the sole authoritative source for Codex food additive provisions, with the CCFA providing recommendations and alignment activities Active commodity committees are expected to update food additive provisions, including checking and correcting names, and INS numbers, confirming technological functions, and advising on specific food categories needed for the use of additives If a commodity committee only meets minimum requirements, the CCFA will undertake the alignment based on the updated information The alignment process involves removing food additive provisions from Codex commodity standards and reflecting them in the GSFA by adding or amending provisions, with the help of a decision tree and working principles A work for future alignment of food additive provisions of commodity standards is proposed for CCFA54, with specific committees and standards listed to be addressed by CCFA55 in 2025"
