The National Pharmaceutical Regulatory Agency (NPRA) has announced the mandatory use of the Farmatag® safety label from Netsmart Sdn Bhd for all registered medicinal products in Malaysia, following the Drug Control Authority’s (PBKD) 413th meeting on October 2, 2025. The directive, issued under Regulation 29 of the Drug and Cosmetic Control Regulations 1984, excludes products registered solely for export and veterinary use, which will be phased in later. Exceptions may apply to radiopharmaceuticals and cold-chain products. The new Farmatag® label, officially registered under the Ministry of Health Malaysia, can be verified using a smartphone app to ensure product authenticity. Netsmart will oversee awareness and training, while existing labels from previous suppliers can be used for one year after the effective date.
