"The Ministry of Food and Drug Safety (MFDS) in South Korea has announced that Lebanon has officially designated South Korea as a pharmaceutical reference country, recognizing the country’s Regulatory capabilities and WHO Listed Authority (WLA) status for pharmaceuticals and vaccines.
This recognition places South Korea among the Major Global Regulators acknowledged by Lebanon for pharmaceutical evaluation and approval activities. The designation is based on Lebanon’s assessment of MFDS’s Regulatory systems, quality standards, and international credibility. According to the announcement, the recognition is expected to provide several Regulatory advantages for Korean pharmaceutical companies, including Fast track Approval pathways, reduced documentation requirements, and Drug Pricing Benefits within the Lebanese market.
The initiative is also expected to strengthen Global Competitiveness for Korean pharmaceutical and biotechnology companies by improving export opportunities and facilitating smoother market access in Lebanon. The announcement highlights collaborative efforts between the MFDS, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, and the Korean Embassy in Lebanon to support international Regulatory cooperation and pharmaceutical trade relations.
Additionally, Lebanese and Korean authorities emphasized the broader Public Health Impact of the decision, particularly in supporting diversified pharmaceutical supply chains and improving access to quality medicines amid Lebanon’s healthcare and supply challenges. The designation further reinforces South Korea’s growing global Regulatory influence and international recognition within the pharmaceutical sector."
