HPRA Issues Warning on False Endorsement and Approval of Cosmetic Claims

"On May 9, 2025, the Health Products Regulatory Authority (HPRA) issued a warning regarding misleading claims made by websites and advertisements falsely stating that their medicines, medical devices, and cosmetics are recommended, certified, or approved by the HPRA. The HPRA clarified that it does not promote, endorse, approve, or authorise specific health products, brands, medical devices, or cosmetics. Consumers are urged to avoid purchasing from websites or ads making these false claims, as such products may originate from untrustworthy suppliers operating illegally. Medical devices affected may include glucose monitors or self-tests, while cosmetics may include teeth whitening products, makeup, and other beauty items. The HPRA encourages the public to report any misleading websites or advertisements by emailing reportacase@hpra.ie. The agency actively works to remove illegal ads and shut down non-compliant product listings. If in doubt about any claim referencing the HPRA, individuals are advised to contact the HPRA directly for verification."
