On 19 June 2025, the European Chemicals Agency (ECHA) and the European Agency for Safety and Health at Work (EU-OSHA) signed an updated Memorandum of Understanding to strengthen their partnership aimed at improving the health and safety of workers exposed to chemicals across the EU.
Key Points:
The collaboration focuses on:
* Regulatory science and policy support related to chemical safety at workplaces.
* Joint hazard and risk assessments of workplace chemical substances.
* Defining occupational exposure limits and sharing best practices for risk mitigation.
* Coordinated stakeholder engagement, publications, and communication efforts.
ECHA Executive Director emphasized that the cooperation will advance knowledge about carcinogenic substances and reduce worker exposure to chemicals of very high concern (SVHC).
EU-OSHA Executive Director highlighted the partnership’s role in translating research into practical prevention measures, particularly regarding workplace cancer risks.
The agreement was formalized at the EU-OSHA Management Board meeting in Helsinki.
This enhanced cooperation strengthens the EU’s integrated approach to chemical safety, supporting both regulatory compliance and the promotion of healthier, safer working environments.
