The Government of El Salvador announced the implementation of the sixth revised edition of the Globally Harmonized System (GHS) for classification and labelling of chemicals. Decree No. 1, issued by the Ministry of Environment and Natural Resources (MARN) and published in the Diario Oficial on January 29, 2025, enacts the Technical Rules for the Introduction, Distribution, and Storage of Substances in Accordance with the Globally Harmonized System of Classification and Labeling of Chemicals.

The regulation establishes mandatory requirements for classifying chemical substances and mixtures, as well as labelling and safety data sheets. It will take effect on January 29, 2026, and is expected to enhance public health and environmental protection while aligning El Salvador's chemical safety regulations with international standards.
