"On May 6, 2025, the European Commission released Implementing Regulation (EU) 2025/831, granting Union authorisation for the biocidal product family ‘AWPF Calcium Hypochlorite BPF’, submitted by Innovative Water Care Europe SAS under Regulation (EU) No 528/2012. This product family—classified under Product Types 2, 4, and 5—contains active chlorine released from calcium hypochlorite and is authorised for use across the EU, valid from 26 May 2025 to 30 April 2035. Germany requested and was granted territory-specific adjustments to the product’s authorisation for Uses 4 and 5 (drinking water disinfection), based on compliance with its national Drinking Water Ordinance (TrinkwV), which implements Directive (EU) 2020/2184. Germany cited public health, environmental, and policy grounds, especially regarding discrepancies in application methods, concentration requirements, and ingredient approvals. The Commission accepted the European Chemicals Agency’s (ECHA) recommendation for a long-term stability test for one meta-SPC as a condition for continued market availability. The product meets all necessary conditions of Article 19(1) of Regulation (EU) No 528/2012, and its Union authorisation is assigned the number EU-0027464-0000. Product Composition Highlights: -Active chlorine (from calcium hypochlorite): 40.3–65% (w/w) -Calcium hypochlorite (releaser): 62–100% (w/w) -Calcium dihydroxide (non-active): 0–11% (w/w) The regulation will enter into force 20 days after publication in the Official Journal of the European Union (i.e. On May 26, 2025)."
