"The European Commission has announced new guidance and simplification measures to ease the implementation of the EU Deforestation Regulation (EUDR), set to take effect at the end of 2025. These updates aim to reduce administrative burdens by an estimated 30%, responding to feedback from Member States, industry, and global partners. Key changes include allowing large companies to reuse due diligence statements, annual rather than shipment-based submissions, and permitting group representatives to submit on behalf of multiple companies. The updated guidance and FAQ aim to clarify compliance, ensure uniform application across the EU, and support traders and operators. A new Delegated Act, now open for consultation, further refines product categories within the regulation’s scope. A benchmarking system for country risk assessment will follow by 30 June 2025. To support implementation, the Commission has intensified stakeholder engagement, hosting over 300 meetings and 50 training webinars, while also scaling up global support through the EUR 86 million Team Europe Initiative. The EUDR, even before full application, is already influencing supply chains and promoting deforestation-free trade practices."
