The UK Parliament’s Environmental Audit Committee is calling for written submissions on the environmental and regulatory risks of perfluoroalkyl and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS). Stakeholders are invited to provide evidence through the Committee’s inquiry portal by 5:00pm on Monday, 26 May 2025. The inquiry seeks insights into the benefits and widespread use of PFAS, current detection and monitoring capabilities, research developments, regulatory adequacy under UK REACH, and comparisons with international approaches. It also aims to evaluate the effectiveness of treatment technologies and the UK’s readiness to manage PFAS pollution. Respondents may address any or all of the 14 key questions outlined in the terms of reference, which span PFAS use, monitoring, regulatory frameworks, and lessons from other jurisdictions. Submissions are encouraged from all, especially under represented groups, and should not exceed 3,000 words. Reasonable adjustments can be requested to ensure inclusive participation in the inquiry.
