"An urgent advisory has been issued regarding the U.S. administration's implementation of reciprocal tariffs, which significantly affect Indian chemical exports. Starting from 5th April 2025, a 10% additional duty will apply to most goods imported into the U.S., unless they are already in transit. From 9th April 2025, Indian chemical exports will be subject to a specific reciprocal tariff of 26%, as detailed in Annex I of the U.S. notification. Exporters are strongly advised to prioritize and dispatch consignments to the U.S. before midnight of 4th–5th April 2025 to avoid these duties. The key timelines are as follows: by 4th–5th April (midnight) – no additional duties apply; from 5th–8th April – a 10% transitional duty will be imposed; and after 8th–9th April (midnight) – the full 26% duty will come into effect. The Indian Government has directed customs authorities to expedite and prioritize U.S.-bound chemical exports. Exporters are urged to act swiftly to mitigate cost increases and maintain smooth trade operations. "
