ASTM International is set to publish a new standard, F3700, aimed at guiding the assessment of per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS) in consumer products. Developed by ASTM’s consumer products committee (F15), this standard will provide a clear roadmap for manufacturers, laboratories, regulators, and consumers to assess the presence of PFAS, which are chemicals resistant to heat, oil, and water and have been linked to serious health risks. As regulations tighten on PFAS in consumer products, this standard will help inform testing strategies across diverse industries, from cosmetics to automobiles. ASTM encourages participation in the development of this standard, particularly for those with expertise in chemistry, to help shape future work in this area.
