"The Head of Indonesia’s Food and Drug Authority (BPOM) issued Decision No. 278 of 2025 to officially establish the Regulatory Development Program (Progsun) for 2025. This program outlines a detailed agenda for drafting and revising regulations under BPOM’s jurisdiction, encompassing the supervision of pharmaceuticals, traditional medicines, health supplements, food, cosmetics, and related administrative and structural reforms. The decision mandates each department and unit within BPOM to coordinate with the Bureau of Law and Organization to formulate necessary regulations, aiming to enhance public health protection and align with national development goals. The annex includes numerous planned regulatory projects such as revisions to drug advertising standards, new labeling requirements for origin information on products, updated standards for cosmetics and excipients, and improved frameworks for organizational structure and strategic planning. The decision is retroactively effective from January 2, 2025. This roadmap prioritizes the development and revision of regulations aimed at enhancing safety, transparency, and competitiveness across the food, supplements, cosmetics, and pharmaceutical sectors. This update specifically focuses on the food and health supplements segment, addressing key areas such as product labeling, registration, importation, distribution, recalls, and more few are as below like: Revised Nutrition Labeling for Processed Foods Trans fat declaration threshold reduced from ≤1g/100g to ≤0.5g/100g. Mandatory ""per serving"" labeling (previously allowed per 100g only). Updated Standards for Sugar Claims ""Low sugar"" thresholds: Solid foods: ≤3g/100g (previously ≤5g) Liquid foods: ≤1.5g/100mL (previously ≤2.5g). Added sugars now include fruit juice concentrates and malt syrups. Natural sugars (e.g., from fruits) or sugar substitutes (e.g., erythritol) must be specified. Prohibited claims: Terms like ""zero sugar"" or ""no sugar added"" are banned; only ""no added sugars"" is permitted (except for alcoholic products)."
