On May 9, 2025, the China National Center for Food Safety Risk Assessment (CFSA) announced a public consultation on two proposed new food raw materials: camelina seed oil and elderberry anthocyanins. Camelina seed oil, derived from Camelina sativa seeds through pressing and filtration, contains beneficial fatty acids such as oleic, linoleic, and α-linolenic acids, with erucic acid levels not exceeding 4.5%. Its use is not permitted in infant foods. Elderberry anthocyanins, extracted from Sambucus nigra L. fruits via enzymatic hydrolysis and drying, are intended for use in various food products including dairy, beverages, candies, and baked goods, with a recommended maximum intake of 3.2 g/day based on a 10% anthocyanin content. Both ingredients require labeling to indicate that they are unsuitable for infants, pregnant women, and lactating women. The consultation period is open until June 8, 2025
