On March 12, 2025, Yuzhou Customs (Chongqing Customs) quickly inspected and cleared 1,000 boxes of saffron from Iran, marking the first import under China’s new Customs Clearance Facilitation Pilot Plan for medicinal and edible homologous products. This reform simplifies the import process, reducing costs and benefiting industries like food processing. The initiative aims to enhance trade efficiency and optimize regulatory oversight, supporting further imports of spices such as cumin and nutmeg.
