The Codex Alimentarius Commission (CAC) has endorsed a draft revision of the General Standard for Food Additives (GSFA), setting the stage for its potential adoption at the upcoming 48th session (CAC48). This draft includes updates such as the addition of new food additives, modifications to application scopes, adjustments to maximum usage levels, and the removal of certain additives. Notably, the inclusion of Jagua blue, the first acid-stable natural blue food color derived from the Genipa americana fruit, marks a significant advancement in natural food coloring agents. These revisions aim to harmonize international food additive standards, facilitating global trade and ensuring consumer safety.
