Draft FSSAI Labelling and Display Amendment Regulations 2025: Enhancing Nutritional Transparency

"The Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) has released the Draft Food Safety and Standards (Labelling and Display) Amendment Regulations, 2025, on February 17, 2025. These proposed amendments focus on enhancing nutritional transparency and consumer awareness. Key highlights include: Nutritional Information Display: Mandating that the percentage of Recommended Dietary Allowance (RDA) per serving for added sugars, saturated fats, and sodium be prominently displayed in bold font on packaging. Dairy Product Labeling: Requiring all milk and milk products, as defined under regulation 2.1.1 of the Food Safety and Standards (Food Products Standards and Food Additives) Regulations, 2011, to feature a specified logo indicating their dairy origin. Caffeine Content Declaration: Stipulating that products containing coffee-chicory mixtures must display specific declarations regarding caffeine content on the front of the package within a rectangular box, ensuring clarity for consumers. Stakeholders and the public are invited to review the draft and submit objections or suggestions within 60 days from the date of publication.
