The European Commission's Implementing Regulation (EU) 2025/97 amends the conditions for using isomalto-oligosaccharide (IMO) as a novel food under Regulation (EU) 2017/2470. It expands permitted food categories to include ice cream, dairy desserts, baked goods, cereals, sauces, yogurts, milk-based drinks, and food supplements for individuals over 10 years old. A maximum daily intake of 10g is set for food supplements containing IMO. Consumers are advised to avoid consuming multiple IMO-containing products on the same day. The European Food Safety Authority (EFSA) assessed the changes and confirmed their safety. The regulation also updates IMO’s composition and purity criteria. It is directly applicable in all EU Member States from its publication date.
