On May 14, 2025, Food Standards Australia New Zealand (FSANZ) released Notification Circular 340-25, announcing the approval of several new food additives and processing aids under the Australia New Zealand Food Standards Code. Key approvals include the use of Lentinula edodes (shiitake) mycelia as a processing aid, milk fat globule membrane as a nutritive substance in infant formula, and 2′-fucosyllactose (2′-FL) produced from genetically modified Escherichia coli W for infant formula use. Additionally, food derived from insect-protected soybean line MON94637 and prolyl oligopeptidase from genetically modified Trichoderma reesei were approved as processing aids. FSANZ also endorsed the implementation of an Australian-only infant formula standard (Proposal P1064). These decisions, finalized at the FSANZ Board meeting on April 30, 2025, have been forwarded to the Food Ministers' Meeting for consideration.
