The Indonesian Food and Drug Authority (BPOM) issued Regulation Number 14 of 2025 to amend Regulation Number 27 of 2021 regarding the requirements for hermetically packaged low-acid processed foods. The update reflects advancements in food science and technology, particularly the application of "Hurdle Technology" to inhibit or inactivate Clostridium botulinum. The amendment mandates evidence through challenge tests or specific inhibitory conditions, outlines a new official guideline for such tests, and removes the previous Article 13. Products already on the market or in the licensing process must comply with the new regulation within 24 months, with micro and small businesses allowed up to 36 months. The regulation took effect upon official promulgation.
