On January 1, 2025, Sri Lanka implemented the Food (Labelling & Advertising) Regulations 2022, introducing significant restrictions on marketing food and beverages to children. These regulations prohibit featuring children under 12 in advertisements and require prior approval from the Ministry of Health for promoting such products to this age group. Additionally, updated labeling requirements, effective July 1, 2025, mandate detailed nutritional information and ingredient lists to empower consumers in making informed choices. The Ceylon Chamber of Commerce collaborated with the Ministry of Health over a decade-long consultation to develop these standards, aiming to balance consumer protection with industry interests.
